BACKGROUND:

My mother is called "Jackal". I'm not quite sure who my father is. I grew up without a father figure. We moved around a lot, because of who my mother is.

See, Mom was a science experiment, working with nanites, and was considered illegal at the time (or at least "Top Secret" or something). I'm sure there were good and valid reasons for the experiments, to somebody at least, just as I'm sure there were reasons they were considered illegal or undercover or whatever.

But, because of the nature of the experiments, and my Mom getting away from them, Mom spent a lot of time looking over her shoulder.

But me, I'm special because Mom's nanites influenced me. See, Mom was supposed to be sterile, unable to bear children. The experiments and the nanites took care of that ... well, until they didn't. See, when I was conceived, the nanites, instead of disposing of me like they were kind of supposed to, they ... fixed me.

They corrected anything they considered defects or mutations in my genetic code so that I ended up ... perfect! Or as I've heard it described, "genetically altered super human". And since the Eugenics Wars, folks like me are supposed to be illegal too, so I tend to be a little elusive about my personal files, if I can. I have to keep most of that under wraps. It's sort of on a need-to-know basis. If you need to know, you'll know what I choose to provide. When your family is hunted down like mine is, and when your very existence is a crime, you can't afford mistakes to slip through the cracks.

There is this one group that is hunting me and my mother that are known as the "Domsul". Basically it's a group of wackjob scientists looking to "do research on perfect beings". That's not exactly something I want to invest in or volunteer for. I'm sure there are others out there that are looking for Mom, or me, or both.

Eventually, me and Mom ended up on Gata VIII. The region where I grew up included both desert and rain forest. There were these huge succulent trees that towered over you (like the giant baobab trees from the island of Madagascar on Earth). They were thick in their trunk, and wide in foliage, with colors of deep rustic red and jade green. At one time, we lived in the trunk of one of those trees. Another time, we lived in a sandstone cave in the desert. Anything to remain hidden from the public eye.

So, I graduated high school at the age of 17, and immediately applied for Starfleet Academy and was accepted. The Academy saved me from a hell I didn't want to live. I ended up finishing their full curriculum in just 2 years, and graduated in the top 10 of my class.

And my first assignment? The USS Penumbra! The most cutting-edge experimental recon ship in the fleet! And their mission? Out to the deep Gamma Quadrant! Maybe that'll be far enough to keep away from the Domsul and any others looking for me. Obviously I was excited to get assigned to the Penumbra, anyone would be, but part of me still dreads when people find out about who, or what, I really am.
